Chairman’s Letter – November 2022

Dear Kennet BeeKeeper,

This coming Wednesday 2nd November we have our next talk by Kirsty Stainton.  This was to have been at Bishop Cannings but because of reasons beyond our control we have had to change this to a ZOOM meeting.  Please do not turn up at the hall but make yourselves comfortable in front of your computer for this really interesting talk.  Kirsty is one of the leading people in bee research in this country and we have her talking to KBKA!  Fantastic

Our December event takes place on Friday 2nd  December  from 7.00 pm for the KBKA  Skittles Challenge Cup.  Won last year by Richard Rickett. This year, due to the Crown pub being closed, we are moving to the Conservative Club at 30 Long Street, Devizes SN10 1NW.  Entry, payable in advance will be £12.00 each and will include a buffet supper. This year we have booked a “Sticker Upper” a new job title that I did not know existed! But it will save our backs as the skittles will be replaced for us. This Skittles evening is our club annual social event and is open to all members and i hope their partners.  Entry is by payment in advance as we need to confirm numbers to the venue for catering. Please contact Elaine our secretary (email:- elainelewis@hotmail.co.uk) and she will provide your payment options along with any dietary requirements you may have. Do contact Elaine as soon as possible but by 24th November at the latest. This new venue sounds really great and I am sure will be an enjoyable evening for everyone. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Jeremy Percy, our new apiary manager, is really pushing ahead with the new Apiary.  Can you brick lay, knock down old walls, do basic carpentry etc?  We hope to be moving the bees soon and HELP is needed in the preparation of the site.  Do contact Jeremy on email: jeremypercy@gmail.com if you can help in any way.  I know he would like to hear from you.

All best wishes

Robert
